Profile

The fourth-generation owner of a Kyoto kimono atelier founded in 1867. Centered on kimonos, they create items through which the user can craft their own stories. Using the family’s unique technique called Fūsai-zome, the theme is dyeing while feeling the “wind.” Each item carries the wish, “May a good wind blow.” Featured extensively in media, including the Osaka Expo and NHK documentaries. Embodying the philosophy that “the same wind never blows twice,” they continue to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Title

Wind-kissed parasol

This parasol is hand-painted with Yuzen dye using a brush. It is dyed with dyes that are among the most durable in the world so that it will not fade even in sunlight. Because the color changes completely between the time of dyeing and the time of finishing, we researched dyes that can only be used for printing in order to use them in parasols. The soft texture that was achieved after research as one of LEXUS’s “Kyoto Craftsmen 2016” is dyed using a technique called “Fusai-zome.”
