Profile

Born into a family that has crafted Buddhist altars since the late Edo period, she carries forward a lineage of refined craftsmanship. After graduating from a design school, she worked as an illustrator while succeeding her family’s legacy as the sixth-generation master of Hayashi Butsudan. Through the traditional art of maki-e—painting with gold and lacquer—she adorns Buddhist altars and a variety of materials with a delicate harmony of elegance and spirit. In 2015, she was certified as a Traditional Crafts Artisan in the maki-e discipline.
